Clearly every act of violence committed against an animal is not a sign that someone is going to hurt a person. But when there is a histrionic pattern of abusive behaviour in a family scenario, then everyone needs to consider all vulnerable victims, including animals, and understand that violence is violence. Often; people who hurt animals don’t stop with animals. There is increasing data backed with significant research and clinical evidence between the correlation and behaviours of Animal Abuse or Cruelty to Animals, Child Abuse, Elder Abuse, Interpersonal Violence, Criminal Violence and Domestic Violence.

Animal abuse in the form of neglect is often one of the first indicators of distress in the household. Whether owing to lack of empathy, mental illness, alcohol or substance abuse; a person who fails to provide minimal care for the family pet is far more likely to neglect the basic needs of other dependents in the household.

In this song 'Circus Trick', I focus of those issues and correlations; asking the listener to Stop and Make the Connection.

The similarities are eerily real...

To demonstrate power and control
To isolate
To enforce submission
To perpetuate an environment of fear
To prevent from leaving or to coerce to return
To punish for leaving or showing independence
